This conference will update delegates on current issues in Information Governance. The Data Use and Access Act 2025 (DUAA) 2025 became law on 19th June 2025. The next set of DUAA provisions came into force in February 2026 with the complaints procedure requirement still due on 19th June 2026. The DUAA has significant implications for NHS information governance aiming to improve transparency for patients about how data is held. There are implications for using personal data for research, recognised legitimate interest, automating decisions and ensuring an effective process for handling data protection complaints.
“The Data (Use and Access) Act 2025 (DUAA) received Royal Assent on 19 June 2025 with the first provisions coming into force on 19-20 August 2025…Recognised legitimate interest’ is a new lawful basis. This new basis will give organisations greater confidence to use personal information for certain pre-approved purposes. These public interest purposes cover activities like crime prevention, public security, safeguarding, emergencies and sharing personal information to help other organisations perform their public tasks.”

“By June 2026, organisations must have a process in place to handle data protection complaints. A complaint can come from anyone who is unhappy with how an organisation has handled their personal information.”
Information Commissioners Office August 2025
The conference will use practical case studies and expert interactive sessions to support you to learn and develop your skills in leading information governance, and ensure you are up to date with the DUAA Act and other relevant recent changes.
“The next phase of the Data (Use and Access) Act (DUAA) implementation has commenced today, 5 February 2026. This means that most of the remaining data protection provisions of the Act have come into force, except for the requirement for organisations to have a complaints procedure which is due to commence on 19 June 2026 and some ICO governance provisions which will follow at a later date.”
