Follow the conference on X #CaldicottSafeguarding

This conference focuses on effective information sharing in adult safeguarding. Case studies will focus on applying the Caldicott Principles in Adult Safeguarding, Domestic Violence, working with the Police, information sharing in emergency situations and working with Vulnerable Adults in Mental Health services.

The conference will also cover mitigating safeguarding risk through access to records which is becoming more important with the 2025 10 year health plan for England ambition to give patients real control through a single, secure and authoritative account of their data, transforming the NHS App into a world leading tool for patient access, empowerment and care planning. Safeguarding issues will need to be considered within this.

“Social care professionals have a legal duty to share information to support individual care. The duty to share information for individual care is as important as the duty to protect confidentiality. Sharing relevant information at the right time helps colleagues to make informed decisions and ensures that people receive safe care across different care settings.”

Information Sharing in Social Care, NHS England 2026

“We will make this possible through new legislation that places a duty on every health and care provider to make the information they record about a patient, available to that patient. We will also legislate to give patients access to their SPR by default.”

Fit for the future: 10 year health plan for England July 2025

“Robust information-sharing is at the heart of safe and effective safeguarding practice.”

NHS England

“In some situations, you may need to share information without consent to keep someone safe. This includes cases where a child or adult is at risk of serious harm.”
