£75 Million to Be Shared Across 170 Hospices in England

As part of the government's plan to invest £100 million into hospices across England, £75 million has been released to be shared between more than 170 hospices. This follows the £25 million boost in February delivering on the government's commitment to the 10 Year Health Plan for England.

This investment will support hospices to deliver major upgrades and enhancements to facilities. These include:

  • solar panels to reduce energy costs
  • separate family rooms
  • communal lounges

While this investment is welcomed by hospice leaders, there are concerns about the continued support from the government to ensure long-term reform to hospice care.

“We warmly welcome this much-needed cash injection, as well as the recognition of the vital role hospices play in our healthcare system. The funds will support us with repairing and developing our buildings to keep our patients and families comfortable."

“However, as a one-off investment which can only be spent on infrastructure, we’re continuing to call for sustainable funding to help us provide our everyday care. With our services receiving only 25% statutory funding, we continue to rely on our community to cover 75% of our running costs."

Tony Collins, Chief Executive, Saint Michael's Hospice, July 2025

In our upcoming conference Patient Safety in Hospices, delegates will reflect on national developments, including an update on assisted dying, implications of PSIRF, and the latest CQC Inspection frame-work.

There will be a focus on key clinical safety areas such as falls prevention, medication safety, reduction and management of pressure ulcers, nutrition and hydration, improving the response and investigation of incidents, preparing for onsite inspections and developing a compassionate culture in hospices.
