This masterclass, facilitated by Dr Liz Lees-Deutsch is aimed at publishing novices but is open to anyone who has work they would like to publish, regardless of their experience or stage of writing. The masterclass offers delegates pragmatic support to enable them to navigate the writing, publishing and editing process, and to publish their work, both professional and academic.
Covid-19 has generated the opportunity for lots of new developments, service improvements and research. Clinical staff are often not familiar with where to start the publishing process, resulting in missed opportunities to showcase work and develop the evidence base. This masterclass provides a timely opportunity to progress some of this work to publication. The in house masterclass option will help organisations to create their own network of publishing practice and support those staff through the process.
Pre-requisite for this Master Class is to have work in progress (e.g. audit, research, case study, quality improvement, reflective work and commentary pieces) for publication. This is a highly practical programme designed with individual, paired and group interactive activities to give novice writers the confidence to write their work for publication. Slide presentations are used minimally. Delegates will be given the opportunity to review work from the perspective of an editor and peer reviewer. The facilitator uses a systematic approach to address each stage of the writing, publishing and editing process. Tips from hard earned experience will be shared. Resources to support delegates through their on-going publishing will be made available electronically. Following the masterclass delegates will have the opportunity to book two coaching calls as they progress their work to publication.
By the end of the Masterclass delegates will:
• Understand barriers to writing and publishing their work
• Have awareness of the broader context of publishing
• Locate a relevant Journal of their choice and follow structured author guidelines
• Plan article content according to word count
• Understand the intricacies of manuscript preparation
• Be aware of the stages in the writing, editing and publishing process
• Gain an understanding of why articles may be rejected
• Distinguish their responsibilities throughout the writing, publishing and editing process
• Be adequately prepared to write an article for publication
