Governance, Management and Sustainability in Care Homes

Tue, 14 May 2024

Virtual, Online

This course will explore the Single Assessment Framework – quality statement for the WELL LED key question – Governance, management and sustainability. We will also look how care providers can clearly evidence that they have embedded governance into every part of their service. We will explore the roles and responsibilities of key managers in a social care service. We will also look at business continuity planning and quality assurance.

Good governance is at the heart of good service provision. The most often breached regulation by CQC registered services is Regulation 17 – Governance. These breaches occur for a number of reasons including the lack of oversight, poor quality assurance measures, ill-defined roles and responsibilities all leading to poor quality non-compliant care provisions. A breach of Regulation 17 does not go alone, it is usually accompanied by a breach of other regulations the most common being Reg 9- person centred care, Reg 12 Safe care and treatment and Reg 19 Staffing.

This masterclass has been designed to explore all of these issues and provide tips and tools to embed governance into practice. We will explore the key components of good governance and how to evidence to the CQC that your governance is compliant and effective.

This masterclass will enable you to:

  • Define what governance is

  • Discuss the systems and processes that underpin governance

  • Define roles and responsibilities of NI and RM

  • Explore robust business continuity

  • Develop continuous improvement plans

  • Explore how we can learn when things go wrong

  • Embed quality assurance into practice and use it to drive improvements

  • Explore data security especially that associated with digital systems

  • Use CQC notifications to evidence good governance
